Eat Right… Every Day

Healthy eating often becomes a focus when you’re trying to lose weight, train for an athletic event, or meet some other specific health goal. But good nutrition isn’t just for now and then; eating healthfully can benefit your body every day.

March, National Nutrition Month, is a good time to take a fresh look at your eating habits:

How many servings of fruits and vegetables do you have each day? Keep in mind that a serving may not be as big as you think. Most people don’t eat enough produce, so try to add extra servings each day.

Are your grains whole? You may have grown up with soft white bread, but it’s nearly void of nutrition. Make the switch to whole grain for more nutrients and better health.

Is your protein lean? Avoid fattier red meats or eat them only occasionally. Instead, opt for turkey, chicken, fish, and lean cuts of beef. Vegetarian meals, with lots of protein-filled beans, also are good for you.

Are you getting your dairy? Calcium is an important nutrient and dairy is a great source. Skim milk and no-sugar-added yogurt are good choices.

When you choose nutritious, health-promoting foods you’ll feel a difference in your energy level and find it easier to maintain a healthy weight.
