Spic and Span
Tidying up removes physical as well as mental, emotional, and spiritual litter. With a place for everything and everything in its place, you can focus energy on hobbies, exercise, and rest — vital feathers in your wellness cap.
- Bulldoze the floors. Loose objects are a risk for injury. Plus, if you can’t find your running shoes, you’re not going to the gym. Put all items in 1 of 3 locations: the trash, a give–away box, or their original storage place. Create a space dedicated to your workout gear — and make it a members–only cove where nothing else can move in.
- Pare down your closet. If you’re trying to let go of pounds, let go of your clutter first — sometimes there’s a direct correlation. Organizers say if you haven’t worn it in a year, ditch it. Maybe you’re saving your favorite pair of pants for after you drop 5 pounds, but you’re better off donating them, losing the weight, and then buying something new (try shopping at a charity’s thrift store).
- Take an objective approach. Keeping a childhood memento you can’t remember receiving? Sometimes just glancing at your personal space through the lens of a third-party viewer can help you dump things you’ve been hoarding for years, which can open up room for clarity, productivity, and peace.
