Chromium

An adequate supply of chromium is particularly important in diabetic’s diet as a vital link in the chain that makes glucose available to the body. Chromium increases the effectiveness of insulin by stimulating glucose uptake in cells. It also helps control levels of fat and cholesterol in the blood. A deficiency f the mineral can lead to high blood-cholesterol levels. Good sources of chromium include sprouted whole grains, hijiki and other sea vegetables, and sweet green peas.
