The following is an ideal menu plan for a woman with gestational diabetes.

BREAKFAST Organic oatmeal made with water rather than milk (instant oatmeal doesn’t count) and topped with ground mixed seeds; or scrambled egg on wholegrain or rye toast.

MID-MORNING SNACK Piece of fruit with a handful of nuts and seeds.

LUNCH Grilled sardines on wholegrain or rye toast; or hummus and vegetables in wholegrain pitta bread.

MID-AFTERNNON SNACK Rick cakes with cashew nut butter and pure fruit jam (no added sugar).

DINNER Quinoa and roasted vegetables; or lentil and vegetable curry with brown Basmati rice.
